Three texts have come my way regarding Buddhism, and I have encountered several buddhists on the way. I described myself as having a ‘tendency to Buddhism’ without actually calling myself ‘a’ Buddhist.
I share the three texts and invite observations, while sharing my own experience over my adult life and provide ‘inside understanding’ to the external forms we may read or observe. I describe informally the different forms of meditation for you to compare to your own experience of meditation or your metacognition.
Buddhism Basics covers the following:
- renunciation, transformation, liberation
- meditation, point and mindfulness; three insights: bell, bow, lotus
- mindfulness sutra as formula, as experience tends to zero
- (+ buddhism is not: is knot, is not, buddhism not)
The objective is to provide an introduction to Buddhism to beginners, to people who have experienced mindfulness shorn of its cultural roots, and for experienced practitioners with the hope that bridges can be made to make mindfulness practices take more root in western culture
